Lydian Armenia is Confident of Amulsar Environmental Management

Lydian Armenia is disappointed to learn that Mr. H. Bronozian and the authors of the environmental management reports he commissioned on the Amulsar project have declined to attend a round table meeting which they had requested the Ministry of Nature Protection of Armenia to arrange. The Ministry had agreed to convene such a meeting and had reached out to  request Lydian’s participation.  As part of our continuing commitment to engage with all stakeholders, and to address legitimate concerns, we welcomed the opportunity to participate in this forum. After the parties had agreed on a January date in Yerevan as suggested by the Ministry, Mr. Bronozian, on behalf of his consultants, subsequently declined  to attend.

On reviewing the commissioned reports, it was clear to Lydian that they contained a fundamental misunderstanding of both geochemistry and the modern best practice mitigations approved in the EIA and presented throughout the many public meetings.  Lydian Armenia responded in writing to all the comments and questions raised by the reports on Amulsar’s environmental management (here, here and here). Our experts remain confident in the global best practice mitigation measures  developed for the Amulsar project and are ready to defend their approach. With this in mind, we will proceed as planned, and will have an independent and internationally known expert on environmental management (Larry Breckenridge of Global Resource Engineering) present industry best practices applied at the Amulsar Project to the Ministry of Nature Protection in January.

The Amulsar Project is meeting or surpassing all legal obligations by applying international standards for the advancement of the Amulsar Project, which is now at its final stage of construction. Lydian maintains a firm belief that the Amulsar Project is part of the development opportunity for Armenia and that the project will establish new standards in areas of social and environmental management in mining.
