Union of Miners and Metallurgists of Armenia Elects a New President

Board of Union of Miners and Metallurgists of Armenia (UMMA) convened on May 11 to elect a new president. Addressing the Board members, president in office Maksim Hakobyan nominated Lydian Armenia Company Executive Director Hayk Aloyan for the position of UMMA president, substantiating his recommendation with Hayk Aloyan’s good professional background and human qualities. Vardan Margaryan, Director of Meghradzor Gold Company, supported Maksim Hakobyan’s initiative.     

Presenting his vision of the Union’s activity, Hayk Aloyan said the Union member-organizations should combine efforts to settle fundamental problems in mining, promote the development of the field and open and transparent work with the public. Lydian Armenia Executive Director sees the Union of Miners and Metallurgists as the best platform for combined work to improve reputation of mining industry in Armenia, which is one of the pillars of the country’s economy. To avoid groundless concerns and to assess the situation properly, people need more awareness of modern mining technologies.     

UMMA members discussed a range of essential professional tasks, including such issues as hiring, training of future specialists, and improvement of education quality in the field. During the next years, the management of the Union will be focusing on these and other goals. The Board members voiced confidence that as president of the Union, Hayk Aloyan will manage to bring all stakeholder organizations together and establish effective cooperation with government agencies. They are sure that he will develop the Union successfully taking it to a new level to make it useful and efficient for everyone and to help protecting the interests of member-organizations and developing the country’s economy.    

Hayk Aloyan was unanimously elected as president of the Union of Miners and Metallurgists of Armenia. Ex-president Maksim Hakobyan was elected as honorable president of the Union.
