Overview

The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the Amulsar project, which is available for download from this website, commits to implementing the project in line with international standards including the Equator Principles, the Performance Requirements (PR) of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the Performance Standards (PS) of the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

The ESIA includes a large number of mitigation and management measures, the implementation of which should ensure that the project is undertaken in line with the abovementioned international standards. A set of topic-specific management plans has been developed to describe in detail how the actions will be carried out. This set of management plans is referred to as the Project Environmental and Social Management Plan (ESMP).  Preliminary versions of the component management plans, which include, for example, documents addressing air quality, water, biodiversity, cyanide management, and stakeholder engagement, were appended to the ESIA, and can be downloaded from this website.

With the start of project construction in late 2016, Lydian implemented an Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS), which provides the organisational framework necessary to ensure the successful implementation of the ESMP.  The ESMS defines, amongst others, the company organizational structure, staff training provisions, communication networks, document control procedures, and systems for checking progress that are required for assured and demonstrable achievement of the project’s aims for sustainable development.

The relationship between the ESIA, ESMP and ESMS is illustrated in the following figure.

The topic-specific environmental and social management plans are considered to be ‘live’ documents, and they will be updated throughout the life of the project as is necessary to ensure that the project commitments continue to be met.

The ESMS Manual is available below.

Separate webpages provide links to updated management plans and environmental & social reports.
